The salary cap is going up, and the Canes are well prepared for it.
The recent announcement (well, a circulated memo is kind of like an announcement) from the NHL of an increased salary cap in the upcoming seasons wasn’t completely unexpected, but the amount was – going up $7.5 million next season, $8.5 million in 2026-27, and another $8.5 million in 2027-28. Hell, by 2027, the cap floor – meaning the minimum amount a team needs to spend on salaries for the season – will be $83.9 million, which is $400,000 more than the cap ceiling (ie. The most a team could spend) was last season.
That’s a pretty massive change.
