Eric Staal had his number retired by the Canes and his legacy is... complicated.
The number retirement of Eric Staal last Sunday brought out a lot of takes, including more than a few people that I knew that were critical of him in the past wiping that away in this, his viking funeral of a sendoff, standing on a podium in front of a lectern with his newly retired number emblazoned on it, looking not like a retired player but still like he could still handle 13 minutes a game and a spot on the second power play line (he’s a little over four months older than a certain top-pair Wookie, so I’m not crazy when I say that.)
