The Canes need help at center. Here are some trade targets that could be a fit.
Sam Bennett is going to make a lot of money this offseason. The grinding and abrasive center had fifteen goals this postseason, and looks like a favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy if Florida wins the Stanley Cup again. [LATE NIGHT EDIT: they did, and he did.] The soon to be unrestricted free agent turns 29 Friday and assuming the Panthers can’t get him extended, he’s going to have a lot of interested teams looking for his services. And that’s… fine.
While I think Canes GM Eric Tulsky is going to do his due diligence, I don’t think Bennett’s asking price is going to be anywhere in Tulsky’s ballpark, and nor should it be.
