Shayne Gostisbehere finds a home. Maybe.
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired Shayne Gostisbehere twice in three seasons. The first time was as a treat at the 2023 trade deadline for minimal capital (a 2026 third round pick) to quarterback PP2 and to hopefully have a Tony DeAngelo-like statistical effect on the team without having a Tony DeAngelo-like effect on everything else. With Calvin de Haan adding more names and teams to his list of grievances, Gostisbehere scored in his first two games with his new team, but otherwise had average numbers while paired with Jalen Chatfield on the third pair.
With a relatively shallow free agent class for defensemen (and a plan in the back of their head), the Canes and Gostisbehere didn’t seem to have a future together, so off went the “Ghost Bear” and the dreams of emoji nameplates on Canes jerseys in the future.
