The Canes answer my question from Wednesday, and an unexpected signing bolsters the Carolina prospect pool.
Finally, something happened. The Hurricanes announced on Wednesday morning that they had signed 2025 second-round selection Ivan Ryabkin to an entry level contract. From the press release:
Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed forward Ivan Ryabkin to a three-year, entry-level contract. At the NHL level, Ryabkin will receive $775,000 in 2025-26, $850,000 in 2026-27 and $895,000 in 2027-28. He will receive $85,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level for all three seasons, as well as a combined $235,000 in signing bonuses.
The joke we used to play on Twitter was false outrage due to an unproven player signing a three year contract, just to get the "well actually" guys in my mentions, which was always funny because it showed if you actually followed me, you'd know I know why it's a three year contract, so it just meant that these guys were trolling responses to show their "knowledge."
